Build your own parsing UWA widget in 3 minutes

You have interesting content to share with others on a web page that doesn't provide any RSS feed ? You would like to make this content available to the users of Netvibes, iGoogle, Windows Live, Opera, the Mac OS X dashboard, the Vista toolbar and Yahoo! widgets ? You only need three minutes to create a widget that will be available on all these platforms thanks to this page and the UWA widgets.

1) Create your widget

To create your widget, configure the "Automatic parser" widget below to display the information you want. A video demonstration is available in the widget to help you. You can do it directly in the widget below, or add the widget to your netvibes page. When the widget displays exactly what you want, click on the "Configure" link, and click on "Share your custom UWA widget" at the bottom of the widget.

To configure your widget:

  1. Enter the URL of the page from which you want to retrieve information, and click "Parse this page"
  2. Select in the page the information you want by clicking on it. You can select one block or many similar blocks (in this case, you haven't to select all blocks, but only some significant blocks), click "Parse the information"
  3. Check that the blocks selected are exactly the ones you want. Else you can select more blocks, or change your selection and go back to step 2
  4. Click "Validate"
  5. Check that your widget is OK. You can change the title and other options by editing the preferences of the widget
  6. Validate by clicking here or on the links below. If you add the widget to your netvibes page, you will find the link by clicking on "Configure" and "Share your custom UWA widget" at the bottom of the widget.

To be sure that your widget is properly configured, and that it will display the good information, even if the page it parses is updated, you should keep your widget on your netvibes page two or three days to test it before clicking the "Share your custom UWA widget" link.
